Provenance
Lot Note:Josep Bartolí was a Catalan artist, writer, and political exile whose work captured both the brutality of war and the quiet dignity of everyday life. Best known for his searing drawings of internment camps during the Spanish Civil War, Bartolí also created vibrant paintings of ordinary scenes, such as livestock, landscapes, and rural life, with expressive depth and emotional resonance. He is also remembered for his passionate, long-distance relationship with Frida Kahlo, which unfolded through a series of intimate letters exchanged over several years.
